Mike and his staff have over 30 years experience in the
design of fine art installations. These can be seen in over 25 major museums and
numerous private collections. The installations range from very simple to very
complex designs, and each one is carefully constructed. The goals in designing an
installation are to create one that will safely display the carefully selected art
objects and, at the same time, blend in with the surroundings so that the installation does not compete with the displayed
objects.
Two Installations for Asian Objects
Below are shown
two installations that both display Asian objects, but their designs differ
greatly.
A Traditional Installation
On the left is a
traditionally-designed installation that is located in
a niche between two windows. The objects on display are Chinese 800-year-old ceramics
dating from the Song dynasty.
This installation
is the property of a private collector.
A Contemporary Installation
On the right
is a large contemporary installation that
occupies most of the wall. This installation has a painted finish and uses effective
lighting techniques to create a dramatic setting with a sense of balance.
On display is a collection of Asian antiques of various shapes and
colors. This installation is also the property of a private collector.
Richard Maness, one of Mike's associates, is a skilled
architect specializing in art presentation and lighting.
He designed the cabinets and lighting for these installations.
Other Interesting Installations
The installation on the left is
is a collection of rare Chinese Tang Dynasty animal sculptures, which are primarily
horses with their grooms.
The one on the right has a large collection of Imperial Chinese yellow glass and porcelain; the lighting
above emphasizes the translucency of the pieces.
Each of these has Earthquake Stabilization, which is very
important for those living in California.
Mike would be happy to suggest an installation design for your treasures and
will offer suggestions that would be best suited to your needs.
