Conservation Framing

Mike and his staff do outstanding conservation framing. They use all non-acidic materials, including matting and backing. This means that the picture will retain its original condition and not be subjected to environmental conditions.

Protection From Color Fading

When choosing framing materials, one can select a variety of glazing materials. Regular glass or regular acrylic is the most economical material but will not protect from fading. Non glare glass or acrylic is rarely used because it distorts the image it is covering and will not protect from fading. The best protective glazing material is Ultraviolet filtering acrylic which will protect your art or memorabilia from fading. It is important to remember that direct sunlight can be very destructive for art due to various factors. No ultraviolet filtering material can protect art from the destructive heat generated by direct sunlight. When possible keep your art in filtered or low light locations. If you are unsure about the stability of your collection you can retain us to advise you on the most attractive and safest locations and manner to display your art collection.

What Choice Do I Have in Selecting Frames?

LA ARTBOX has an immense selection of frames and mats. The frames range from simple, streamlined metal to very decorative ones of ornately carved wood with various finishes.

On the right is a corner of Mike's office which shows some of the frames that are available.

If one is lucky enough to own a hand-carved 19th Century frame, Mike can restore it for you. He can rebuild the missing parts and match the paint or finish exactly.

What Choice Do I Have in Selecting Matting?

LA ARTBOX also has a huge variety of mats from which to choose. They range from simple mat boards, which can be single, double, or triple, so one can choose the look they prefer. There are also beautiful linen and silk mats of various textures and colors that one can select.

But I Can't Decide!

Sometimes clients are overwhelmed by the many choices and possibilities. If so, Mike will help them with their selections. He can visualize the final result because of his extensive knowledge of art and design. He can and will give excellent opinions, which is quite different from the salespeople from "Fast Frames" and those other outlets that deal in mass production.

How Much and How Long?

Again, all of the framing is customized and done according to the client's specifications. Mike does not have a "Fast Frame" attitude. Obtaining the supplies may take a week or two depending on availability. The work may be somewhat laborious depending on your selection. The average turnaround time, then, is three to four weeks.

But one will have a beautifully framed piece of artwork. Framing by LA ARTBOX often costs no more than Aaron Brothers or other discount framers; and for that you get Mike's added expertise!
