Antique Glass Lamp Globe
19th Century
The photos below depict the "before" and "after" conditions
of a French glass lamp
globe, which Mike restored. This antique glass globe stood atop of a bronze base. The
globe is skillfully painted in enamel after a famous canvas by the notable horse
painter, Rosa Bonheur.
The glass globe, which measures vertically about 20 inches, was broken into
82 pieces. The missing piece which one can see in the upper picture measured at
least 3 inches.
The missing piece had to be filled with a cast chemical
compound material. The
replacement piece then had to be painted to match the original artwork of Rosa Bonheur.
The private client who owns this lamp was obviously pleased with the outcome; the
restoration work is non-detectable to the viewer.
Mike, as the art restorer, was equally pleased with
the outcome. As one can imagine, a restoration such as
this is a major achievement. Since Mike is such a good art restorer and
painter, he is able to do
the repainting required on glass and many other types of media. Do you have an object
that requires fine, detailed work like this? Challenge Mike by
having him evaluate it. He will be happy to give you an estimate.
